I wouldn't wish Parkinson's on anyone. I wish her peace.

PSP is a terrible disease. I have witnessed a neighbor battle it over the last few years. I can understand why Wexton would want to finish her term. It may be a helpful distraction while she’s still in the earlier phases. Her doctor has probably given her an idea of how much time she has before her condition really deteriorates. This is probably her way of striking a balance between living her life and accepting the reality of her future. I wish her the best.

That's terrible. I hope she gets a good amount of time with her family when she finishes her public service.

She's not doing that. She is a Democrat and there is already such a slim margin for Republican majority in the House. She is not going to allow Republican Glenn Youngkin appoint a Republican replacement who will strengthen the tiny Republican majority in Congress. Especially since Youngkin campaigned as a moderate Republican, but has been veering more and more conservative since taking office. She has 16 months to serve, and the election is in 14 months, so she's going to finish her term.

I don’t know if the Governor of Virginia can appoint a replacement, but he does have to issue a writ of election:

§ 24.2-209. Filling vacancies in House of Representatives.
When any vacancy occurs in the representation of the Commonwealth of Virginia in the House of Representatives, or when a representative-elect dies or resigns, the Governor shall issue a writ of election to fill the vacancy. Upon receipt of written notification by a representative or representative-elect of his resignation as of a stated date, the Governor may immediately issue a writ to call the election. The representative's or representative-elect's resignation shall not be revocable after the date stated by him for his resignation or after the forty-fifth day before the date set for the special election.
