So, I found that happened to me when I was on a higher dose. I mentioned this recently on another thread: but my “trick” is to stay on the very lost dose possible but then to occasionally pop up my dose when the anxiety is really unmanageable. It’s been a good balance for me in dealing with the side effects but not quitting completely. I also think you get used to the higher doses and have to keep ratcheting up, but if you stay on the lower dose you’re not getting so used to the higher side that it stops working. yMMV. Always prioritize your mental health. When that’s bad, life isn’t worth living, regardless of your size. That said, I do count my calories now, as I can’t trust my internal hunger as much.

Point: The balance can be tough to nail down. But I do think it’s possible for many of us to maximize the positive effects and minimize the negative side effects with a bit of trial and error. If my anxiety goes away completely, that’s great—but so does my motivation. So, for me, I’ll take a little anxiety and a lower dose. But off the meds, I’m really not a functioning human a lot of the time. So that also is a no-go.

I lost weight on Wellbutrin, when I went off I gained 10-15 lbs.

I went on an off of SSRIs for years trying to battle the weight gain. I realized eventually that life without my severe anxiety was worth a few extra pounds. It sure does suck, but I try to be thankful there is effective anxiety treatment rather than bemoan the extra pounds.

This happened to my DH. I love him so much on the medicine and 20 pounds heavier. His mental health and overall improvement to his life is so worth the extra weight.

SSRI did the same to me. It was a necessary trade off but it sure sucks.

This is so tough OP. But obviously prioritize your mental health and try to distract yourself from mindless eating. As PP said, anxiety can suppress appetite and now that you’re in a better place mentally, you may be eating a bit more (even if totally healthy foods). Try to just be mindful of portions and quantities.

I took prozac for about 7 years and gained about 10 pounds. Something about it made hungrier, I ended eating more in one meal while on it than before, it took longer to feel full. I don't know if the pill does something to you metabolism, or if it does something to your digestion where you literally just feel hungry. It also made me have very vivid dreams, and I never felt like it allowed me to get into a deep deep sleep, always had trouble waking up in morning.
However, it was great for my mood and extreme PMS, so I can't say I regret it.

Anxiety is a pretty strong appetite suppressant. You probably weren't healthy before.

OP you didn't say whether or not you're eating more though. I would first look at this as the culprit. Also are you female, and how old are you?

I have an appointment with my doctor tomorrow. I’ve been so healthy and working out but noticed a pretty significant weight gain. I went and checked my health vitals and noticed the chat literally climbing the day I started my SSRI and then upped the dose and gained 10 more to go from low 120’s to 142. This prozac. I’m so bummed because for the first time in 2 decades I’ve felt relief from pretty severe anxiety. The prozac also causes insomnia so I wondered if maybe my qualify of sleep slowed my metabolism but I think the only answer is going off it and trying no meds or possibly one of the new ones.

If you had this experience, when you went off, did you lose the weight?
