I pay about $250/mo for mowing and landscaping in my front yard. I’d rather spend my limited free time doing other activities on the weekends.

My next home will not have lawn.

Don't have the time. I don't want to waste weekends doing yard work. I'd rather pay someone to do the yard while I take the dogs for a good long walk.

This is very much a Blue Zone activity and way of life, good for you! Our across the street neighbors are like this. They're retired and now all they do is tend to their yard, it always looks lovely. And in exchange they're staying active and getting a lot of Vit D.

People don't have time and energy to do this work.

We live in a house that we feel comfortable in on our salary. Not great schools and not great commute. But, it has worked for us because we have been able to easily afford it, and financially have solved for issues like education, lifestyle, college, retirement and home maintenance. I am glad that I am able to afford the landscaping etc.

You're a hypocrite because unless you commit 100% to going all the way with that "natural lawn" of yours, and by that I mean 1) never cutting your lawn again 2) never killing one weed, ever again then that puts you essentially in the same category as those who have those boring single varietal lawns you detest so much. I think it's more of an indicator of dual-working households. Nobody has time to take care of their yard. I recently started gardening, since I am no longer working and am really enjoying it. When I was working full time, it was a chore, now it's a luxury.

DH mows our yard. I'd say in our neighborhood, in FCC, about 1/2 of the folks have a lawn service and 1/2 do their own.

I’m a SAHM who does all the mowing and all the yard work, planting flowers in spring and cleaning up leaves in fall. Saves my family a lot of money and keeps our weekends free for kid and family activities.

My neighbor is a millionaire with half a dozen properties and mows his own lawn but he is the only one on my street who does.

We make $250k now so we’re one of the DCUM poors but we had a yard service even at half that income. It’s just not something either of us cared to spend time on.

60% in my neighborhood seems to me do their own yards. Fairfax. I do my own. Make more than enough not too but I love the work. I barely call it work. And it’s good exercise too.

In the neighborhood I live in I feel like we are one of the only families that mows their own lawn. Now that my son is older he inherited the job. We can afford to hire someone but I'd rather spend that money elsewhere.
