I was thinking having him try one on my laptop would help him do his best at school. I also wonder... do other parents do this with their kids or have I gone full-on crazy here now?
What purposes are they using the test for? Does the test result have a specific impact on your child?

Does Kumon reading help with ‘prepping’ for map r? It definitely helps with math.. but not sure about reading.

There is no point in prepping for the MAP test. The whole idea is for them to improve in the winter over the fall, and in the spring over the winter. That’s it.

No need to prep for MAP tests at all, because MAP tests content knowledge. If you are a good and consistent student you will score well.
However, ask your counselor for a detailed breakdown of how your kid did in MAP test and what units they did poorly in. Most parents (and most teachers) do not know that MAP results can be used as a diagnostic tool to help students to pinpoint areas of weakness.

MCPS gives out tons of standardized tests. How much prep do they need for mecanics of standardized tests?

Yes, we prep them. Makes a difference in scores. If you want your kid who is a good reader or mathematician, but not used to taking standardized tests, then their score on the MAPs will not be reflective of their abilities, and they may be pulled out daily for RTI.

Our school (mcps) uses chromebooks.
There is usually one test administrator and one proctor and 20-30 kids. If none of the kids know how to log in or click on the answers, it's chaos. The practice is just so they can manage the system on the test day, not so they are prepped academically

Our school does MAP testing 3x per year. I don’t know anyone that “preps” their kids.
I have one child that goes to a small private school that doesn’t use computers in class and we don’t use computers at home much. My child has no problems with the MAP test.
