My older DC who is now in college, had scores all over the place. As high as 95 (winter)and as low as 67 (spring) the same year. I worried about it but honestly it didn’t matter. She was in the same classes as other high scoring kids and got a good score on the SAT and is in college now. My younger DC also has a lot of variation in scores and I just think that maybe my kids are not the best at taking these test.

And yes to his annoyance kids were bragging about getting 246/247 etc and pestering other kids about their scores.

You are the adult, OP. Tell your kid they do not need a tutor and you are not paying for it. The more you focus on the score, the more your kid will.

You should teach him that those kids are obnoxious and to not be like them.

+1 it’s also bad parenting.

We got workbooks and did it ourselves.

True. But in comparison he didn’t do that well..right? If everyone is getting 99 then your 95 or 85 seem really low.
That is one of the problems in affluent schools.

On a related note, it’s interesting the students at your school are all sharing their scores. It’s not like that everywhere. I think the teacher is able to change the setting so that score doesn’t show up—that would be my approach if I was happy with my child’s score in your situation.

No - you do you. Don't worry about what other people are doing.

We are in a low FARMs/affluent area school and everyone in my DC’s class seems to be getting outside academic enrichment. When my DC took MAP test this fall he scored in the 95th percentile for math and 85th for reading (dropped from spring was 94th). However, he feels everyone has really high scores and was feeling badly about his ‘low’ scores. Would you get a tutor for your child just so they might score higher on such tests? It seems crazy to me but it also seems to be the norm around here.
