One reason for this staff shortage is because of the negative, hostile, entitled, ungrateful, disrespectful parents. Professionals don't want to work in the schools because parents think they are entitled to treat them like **&YP(*O and have unrealistic expectations.
Stop bashing on FCPS and speech therapists. Start showing some respect for educated professionals who choose to dedicate their profession to helping your children, for low pay, high stress, and little respect. STOP BEING SO AWFUL. More professionals would be willing to work in the schools if it was not for parents and people like you.
Not being awful, just realistic. I’m a teacher and have never had a kid that received more than a 1.5 hours a month…and that student had a impediment so bad that NO ONE at school could understand them. Everyone on the team thought she needed more except the SLP.

They don't. The parents that can afford to pull them out for private therapy.
You cannot expect to ever solely rely on the school to help your child. Get private services.

DS made progress during the COVID year with virtual speech therapy. He had a stutter and articulation issues, I am guessing that there are some issues that are easier to address in person then using virtual.

So, actually my son made a ton of process during virtual year speech therapy. I actually think seeing himself on the screen so he could see what he was doing wrong with his mouth really helped. Maybe give it a try but ask if there are alternatives if it doesn’t work? My son’s speech therapist stayed in a mask all last year and he made no progress, so I would rather have virtual than masked.

Yep. I work at a school were the speech therapist supports 9 total schools.

This allows the same speech therapist to cover multiple schools. It's actually not a bad approach--sometimes the therapist can see more looking closely one-to-one on the screen in ways that would be uncomfortable in person. They can also record easily and play back and slow down to get at some of the nuances.

Yes. FCPS can do just about anything, except They can’t discriminate.
If you child has a disability then maybe you could ask for in-person lessons.

I just received a notice from my son's high school that speech therapy services will be provided virtually this year. Is that even allowed?! My son does not do well with anything virtual. The pandemic was a nightmare for him. Is this a common thing? What do you think about it?
