DCPS numbers are downright scary. Most schools average 800-900. That’s well below the national average, meaning most of those kids are basically ready for community college, at best.


You may want to fact check me on this, but I read that nearly all DCPS students take the SAT, so those numbers are a true reflection of all students, including lower performing ones. At most schools just the college-bound students take the SAT’s and, with TO, many kids are circumventing the test altogether. So apples to oranges! (Although don’t get me wrong, that’s still a low average)

If the bolded part is true, I agree with your post. Compare to FCPS where only 66% took the test (most likely college-bound students) and where it never reach 70% to keep the average high.

I know the NCS reported average ACT is 33, which is eye opening about how well your daughter is doing compared to classmates (my daughter had a 3.2 GPA and scored a 33 on the ACT - average!).

Yes, school profile - google school profile for your school. It's usually on the counseling page. If you can't find it, ask your school counselor.

I was listening to a podcast and learned that colleges have average test scores for schools in order to put applicants information in context.
How can parents find out this information to support their students in the decision making process for submitting test scores.

Any guidance?
