It’s all good to be for gun control when you feel safe and depend on the govt and police to protect you. In Arlington, Fairfax, Montgomery counties, we expect a certain level of safely.

But when you see endless carjackings, breaking, shootings in YOUR neighborhood and no police response within a reasonable period of time and then the DA letting these criminals off with no jail time, it makes you change your opinion.


I’m protecting myself and my family period. It’s my decision to do what must be done.

Yes, look what happened after Sandy.

No police to be found. Homeowners with guns were able to protect their homes and families from looters. Also when police protection breaks down, and it takes cops 30 minutes to come to your home for a burglary or break in, it’s time to get a gun to protect yourself.

I guarantee a burglar does not want to break into a house I nTexas knowing that 1/3 of them carry guns and they can get killed. But breaking into a home in DC is less risky as most legal residents can’t get s gun.


I find D messaging re: guns on DCUM incredibly perplexing. On the one hand, there are the expected anti-gun ownership posts. On the other, there's apparently a never-ending Democratic hype machine suggesting that R's about to start a civil war (e.g., https://www.dcurbanmom.com/jforum/posts/list/1146275.page ), which is about as good an advertisement to buy a gun as the gun manufacturers could conceive.

Statistically it’s impossible to measure the deterrence rate of armed citizens. People should be strictly licensed to carry firearms. I guarantee a carjacker or a burglar wants an unarmed target.
