That's nice but we have car seats in the back - op
Where does the dog sit?

Well she's a puppy so she sits up front with us. We haven't been in the car more than 10 minutes to go to the vet. She sits on the passenger's lap with a barf bag ready to catch barf. - op

She needs to be harnessed in the back seat for safety. Take her on practice drives each morning after she’s pooped but before she’s eaten. Make the drives a little longer every day.

Practice driving under better conditions: empty stomach, minimal turns, to somewhere more fun than the vet.

Then home and breakfast.

Oh and vet visits scheduled for mornings only, no morning food before.

Our dog did this so much the we still put a washable blanket down before taking her in the car, and if we go on an extended car trip (which is RARE) we get both anxiety meds and car sickness meds.

Not all puppies outgrow it. Our 4 year old still barfs if we go more than 10 minutes away. It's awful. We thought we were getting a family dog we'd be able to take on hikes and go camping with. She does not ever go in our car because no matter the medicine, it never works and we are tired of cleaning up the awful mess.

This is normal btw. Don't feed the puppy before you have to leave something like 2 hours before (but double check) you can get anti nausea medication from the vet. I thought my dog would outgrow it but, no he still gets sick ( only drools which is better) but he developed a fear of the car so it took me a long time to get him over it. Don't forget to drive slower and more carefully.

We also had this issue and ours outgrew it at 9 months old. Vet can prescribe cerenia that you can give before car rides. It works.

We had this issue and our dog did outgrow it around 7-8 months when his inner ear was apparently more developed. Not much helped in the meantime but just trying to offer hope that it won’t necessarily be a permanent problem!
