I thought it sounded like the writer was “asking for a friend,” or they observed this from the outside (cutting the lawn).

You have 30 days to make your choice and 90 days to make it happen.

I could see this, except for the military part. Most guys like this with enabler parents don't end up joining the military.

Zero chance if the parents continue to enable him. 10 year from now things will be exactly the same except he will be 30 which is even less socially acceptable.

Maybe he’ll meet a rich girl with low self esteem, get her pregnant and marry her, then be supported by her family. Or maybe he’ll get in trouble with the law and join the military. Who knows?

Young man, aged 20. Didn’t attend college. Has never held a job of any kind, but did once give up on a paid internship after one week. Splits 50/50 living arrangement with mother and father. Drives car father paid for with gas mom pays for. No clue how everything else is paid for, but assume it’s the same. Never outdoors cutting grass or otherwise helping around the house. Not disabled.

What does his life look like in 10 years?
