The Seward Group who wrote this article below actually represented me, I chose a SFH instead because at that price point a few years ago, it was a similar monthly payment. I don't regret it but have yard maintenance (ugh) and not a ton of neighborhood friends, so you probably have the better plan.

This is very helpful as there is a “B” unit on the market that looks really nice. That area seems a little distant from all the King Street attractions, but maybe that’s a good thing.

People seem happy there but I think any HOA is going to have potential tensions. Drama seems low.

Bring lots of money and a tolerance for noise and crime in many parts of the area.
Many communities there with HOAs are relatively small, which can result in higher-than-usual interpersonal tensions between what the HOA Board wants to do or not do and the desires of individual residents. The older the properties, the higher the risk of special assessments. And of course properties potentially subject to flooding face special risks.

Subject: Townhouse/Condo Communities in Old Town Alexandria
I’m thinking of downsizing to a 2-3 bed/2 bath town house or condo in Old Town within the next year. I will be living by myself in a few years, so I thought a community would be a good fit. Does anyone have any experience, good or bad, with any of these communities? Especially issues around HOA’s and special assessments, thanks.
