I studied theater at Columbia College Chicago, and it is a small, private arts college that won't show up on any of your "best of" lists anywhere; but if I had to do it again and could get in anywhere, I would probably go back to Columbia. The short of it is the faculty -- they are all working in the industry and well respected in the community. Chicago is a great theater town.

But you really can't go wrong with my first list.

This PP here. Oh, and if you need recommendations for monologue coaches for the auditions, let me know and I can make some recommendations.

Carnegie Mellon, Wesleyan and Davidson have top-notch theater programs.

Having known kids who were pursuing this, I'll say that the lists for those pursuing acting or musical theater were different than the lists for those pursuing more "behind the scenes" majors.

Is child interested in musical theater or acting? Stage or film/television? Programs differ!

Elon (NC) and Muhlenberg (PA) are two others with well-regarded programs, along with SUNY Purchase.

It depends on what kind of program you want -- BFA/conservatory with lots of applied requirements (and competitive audition based application) or BA with fewer requirements and more flexibility? Or, maybe check out both and see what feels like a better fit.
It also depends on what area of study -- acting? Directing? Music Theatre? At conservatory programs, these will be separate majors. At BA, they could be separate tracks to Theatre degree, allowing for more dabbling and crossover but likely with fewer applied classes.

If you share a little more about kid's interests, I could make a few recommendations. (Theatre prof)

The Facebook group, BFA acting dreams, is a wealth of information. Best of luck.
