Subject: Do you judge parents who still impose a bed time on older kids?
Who are you boring people where this comes up as a conservation topic?
I have literally never talked about bedtimes with another mom after my kids were out of elementary school. And even then it was more of a comment like "Thank you again for inviting us to dinner. We're going to head out now to get these guys to bed before it gets too late. We have a busy day tomorrow."

Agreed, even worse I know parents who don't enforce bedtime on elementary school kids, in part because the parents are typically too busy getting stoned.

My kids were in public magnet programs. I used to drop them off to their respective schools usually 30-45 minutes by car in the morning.
The long days, rigorous curriculum and long commute meant that my kids were usually asleep by 9 -10 pm. I did not have to monitor a lot of unsavory teen behavior because of the programs they were in. Of course, by the same token, my life was pretty much dedicated to making sure that their logistics needs were fulfilled.

I'm a super laissez-faire hands-off parent and even I judge parents who DON'T enforce a bedtime. Teens need sleep!

Like what kind of bedtime? If it was strangely early, yes. But 10pm is reasonable for early teens. 11-12pm is reasonable for older teens.

No, because sleep is the glue that holds people together. I judge parents who are highly-educated and *don't* pay attention to something as fundamental as their children's sleep needs.

I am/was that parent. Oldest is now in college and seems to have had no trouble adjusting. Youngest is 13 and will have a specific bedtime for at least the next 2 years. After that, things get flexible, due to older teen commitments, but while they're in high school under my roof, the only reason to go to bed late (or early!) is if they have outstanding assignments. And that shouldn't become a regular thing.
Electronics are downstairs at night.

I also judge parents who don’t impose bed time! Though most people I know have come to an understanding with their teen and it’s mutual. It’s not an issue. Except for teens who stay up on video games with no parental supervision, who I definitely judge.
