Very tough OOS admit - especially if in CS or Business or non-legacy. My parents attended, it’s DS’s first choice, doubt he will get in. According to below, 34% of Sidwell applicants were accepted in 2019. I assume it’s gone down some since then.

Yes, and as others have said, that percentage could be higher or lower depending on major. CS, Engineering, Business very very tough. Humanities, not as tough.

This. It has been a very tough admit lately.

It's been always tough for OOS kids.

not always. Last 10 years. acceptance rate at UM was above 50% for OOS 20 years ago.

Also depends on the major.

My high stats kid from a magnet was waitlisted for CS major. I think DS was on the verge of getting off the waitlist but DS decided he wasn't interested. Too cold, per DS.

His stats were incredibly high, but activities were just so so. I thought his essay was good, but I'm his parent. I have no idea how good his recs were.

It's become an Ivy level admit at my kids' school.

It is an easy day drive from DC. Get signed up for a tour and book a hotel room and go for it.

The acceptance rate you need to look at is out of state, which is closer to single digits than the blended all applicant acceptance rate.

What grade is he in?
Why is it his first choice?

U of Mich is not too far away, so it would seem prudent to get kid over to Ann Arbor to take a look around, ASAP, so his like or dislike can be factored into the search. They’ve had a really good football team the last few years, which typically bumps up the number of applications.

Fun fact: Detroit is farther east than Atlanta.

My son told me that his number 1 choice of school is UMich. He has never even been to Michigan. I’m wondering how hard it is given that it is a HUGE school. I can see it has a 20% acceptance rate.
