I hear you OP.

My kid is grown now, but married people were always telling me how common my situation is.

Yet, in Bethesda, I found myself surrounded by families with dads.

Definitely try social media. You can see if there is a local single moms group on Facebook. You can ask in your community group or start your own group by posting a request.
You can try "meetups" based on something that interests you because there are a lot of single people involved.

It is pretty obvious that OP is single and looking for other single moms to be friends with. Probably because OP wants friends who are in similar situations as her. Before being rude, take the time to actually read a post.

Bumble BFF. I'm in Canada, but I believe Bumble is across North America. I've met excellent single mom friends with same age kids and it's been great!

Same way I make married mom friends. I have an active life and go to church, socialize, volunteer and have a job. I meet people in all of those activities. I’ve been a single mom for a long time and have never just sought out other single moms.

If you look on Facebook there are several groups for divorced women, single moms, single parents, etc. Also at the playground or just chatting to parents at school functions. I'm a single mom and have both married and single mom friends.

At the playground — I’m a single mom and chat with lots of other parents at the playground and have met several other single moms that way. Back before Covid I also was in a single moms by choice meetup group and I’ve kept in touch with some folks from that via group chat.

Genuinely curious! It seems like all the moms I meet these days are married and like doing couples things. It would be nice to have a single mom friend to relate to and hang out with. How do you go about meeting them?
