With the explosion of rats this year plus the long time, ongoing issues with illegal/unsafe construction that have plagued the city and harmed neighbors, DC needs to keep the inspectors.

Look I'm sorry this is your first experience. Do you live in some rich area of the city where this isn't a thing? Are you new to the city? This is nothing new, and yeah, you gotta pull your trash out of your alley. Also know that when you do construction, some neighbor somewhere is watching your yard and complaining about anything that seems amiss. Common as well.

(And yeah i live in ward 7 in a rampant crime area)

DP to add that the proliferation of rats in DC this year may mean DC steps up this enforcement, which is honestly ok by me given rats have been the worst in 15 years on my block.

They were common where we rented on the hill, but my everyone in my alley in Petworth leaves their bins out all the time. Drives me nuts.

We've gotten a this citation a couple.times in NE over the years.

MPD isn’t giving these citations.

I'm freaking livid! I received a citation from DC today claiming my single trash can was left outside too long. My trash pick up happens on Tuesday and Friday.

We are having some remodeling done in our house and the contractors use our small front yard to saw tiles and wood for needed improvements. Our contractor moved a single trashcan to the side of our wall on a public sidewalk and forgot to bring it back up that night (Friday). One night. I get a citation in the mail today with a picture of our trash can pushed against our wall. The picture was taken at 7:15 am on Saturday. WTF?

Yet, on my same bock where I am getting a citation for a trash can left out overnight, 3 cars were broken into on our block and surrounding streets. Windows smashed, etc...

Ona side note, we live in a neighborhood that is vast majority on street parking. All day there are cars parked from VA, MD and all other places. It is supposed to be two hour parking for those without a zone sticker in our neighborhood. Routinely, these out of zone cars are parked all day. Parking enforcement is non-existent before 5 pm.

I just had a ticket on my car yesterday for $50. The ticketing officer noted that I was too close to a stop sign. I measured, and my car was 2 inches over the valid parking sign. Yes, I am contesting both "violations".

DC has had 184 homicides this year, up 30% since last year. Motor vehicle theft in DC is up 113% since last year. Why is the government of DC hassling tax paying homeowners and not putting resources into stopping crime?

Sorry, I am venting, maybe even going on a rant. It just pisses me off!
