Competitive parenting is rampant in this area.

It is Rec. The rec part of NVSL are the B meets on Monday night. Every kid gets to race and participate. The A meets are the competitive component where only the best swim. Summer leagues are the best of all worlds.

We love summer swim league because it is fun for the kids and a great community. Kids stay busy with practice and hanging out with the summer swim friends afterwards. There are also a lot of really fun team building activities and traditions. I love that kids who are 6 and 18 are on the same team; it's really fun to see the older kids mentoring the younger kids and how the younger kids look up to them.

Sure there is also the competition aspect, because unlike club swim, which are just about the individual, summer meets are scored and every point counts; the 6 yr old's point count just as much as the 18 year old's.

There are many swim leagues in this area, some nearly as large, but only NVSL parents are starting multiple threads about the pools in September.
