i published my first book at age 40! there is no way I would have had the knowledge and perspective to do it earlier.

Agree. I think I have more energy now, but that's because I finished degrees, started a career and had kids in my 20s. Mid 40s, kids are older teens, I have more time to focus on myself, career and activities. I've taken on more work, went back to the gym, volunteered for more organizations.

It also helped tremendously to give up wine (95% of the time, I'll still have one glass at a special dinner or party).

I plan on riding this renewed wave of energy as long as possible.


Totally. I wasted a lot of young energy on the wrong things. I’m more efficient with my resources now, and I’m more experienced at identifying pitfalls. I’m really excited for the next decade. I do feel like if I don’t make some moves now, I will never overcome the backwards inertia that started in my thirties when I had young kids.

How old are your kids that you're already past your child rearing years?

I was PT through most of my 40s, slowly started increasing hours and taking on more responsibility in late 30s. Really leaned in on a big, high profile project at 40, rocked it, and at 42 got promoted to VP. Currently nearing 45 and have doubled my salary in the last 3 years.

I’m sure this is a DOJ a lawyer who went to Big Law and then settled in house.

I embarked on my big push at 38. At the time I was making $170K. Two years later I had my first AGI over 7 figures. Today, I’m on act 3 and make about $500-$600K.

A big part was luck, but it can be done.

I'm in my early forties and have made some career stumbles. Also, due to various family issues, I leaned out in order to handle time-consuming and some painful life things.

Things have cleared a bit now, and I'm really looking for inspiration. My energy isn't what it was in my twenties, and I'd love some success stories of people who really started focusing on their careers, jobs in their forties. Tell me it's not too late!
