"Starting late next week, we will begin MAP testing for the Fall.... I've attached the Fall MAP testing schedule..."

The county has stated there's a set window for this to be completed by (something like 10/5) so it's happening.

I thought you were not supposed to prep or study for these sort of tests, which is why they "spring" it on students?

The objective is to see a student make progress (i.e., their score rise) over the course of the school year. There is no motivation to maximize the fall scores.

It’s similar to SAT in that the test can qualify you for programs. To spring it on students unannounced and after a long break is not something a good school would do.

My DD's teacher let us know about the MAP testing in a note on ClassDojo over the weekend.

DC's school used to spring it on kids. Kids didn't mind. It was less anxiety inducing.

Would be nice to know just to make sure kid is well rested and ready.

Your job is to send your kid to school rested and ready every day. Rewarding parents who think they can pick and choose when to parent isn't a reason for a school to notify you.

There’s nothing to prepare for. I’m sure your child was fine.

Is there a reason you like to know? I'm just curious bc my DD said she got tested today and i was like ok...

Are you upcounty? My kid’s school did the exact thing last year. Makes me think they don’t care about the students.

OP here. It's not in any emails from the teacher nor the school (principal, PTA, etc.).

It seems to be all over the place. Sometimes they tell us ahead of time, sometimes they spring it on us.

Yeah, not cool. Are you sure you didn't miss an email? Although I know that my daughter's middle school likes to hide the MAP testing dates at the very bottom of the long weekly newsletter in very small font...
