Same in my son's Catholic HS. You would get detention if you had it out in school.

In his Catholic MS, they had to leave them in a box in homeroom. They could pick them up at dismissal.

Watch out teachers. You will be held accountable for students addictions and lack of discipline and if you try to take the cell away many students will attack you. If you report it admin will make your life difficult. I don't recommend this profession to people who what basic human decency.

They need to ban them entirely during school hours. They should be locked up during the school day. Anyone using their phone should get an automatic zero.

My kids are in FCPS and seems like the schools are pretty strict on phone policy. At least in the middle school according to my DC.

The teacher is likely to get in trouble for enforcing cell phone policies. So the students are on their phones. All the time.

Don’t take it personally, OP. That’s how they treat their teachers every day. It’s not you.

But they are on their phones and they disregard the class. Try to take them away ànd give consequences- the teacher will be in hot water, be retaliated against by admin, probably lose their job, asked to resign, and if they don't resign mcps will lie to unemployment to block any public benefits.The union tries to tell you that teachers are not allowed ui benefits but it's just more bullying.

Cell phones are technically supposed to be off during class but I don’t know any school that enforces that.
They shouldn’t be actively on their phones during instruction time.
