All OES kids zoned to OHS go to Jackson, right? And if DC gets into AAP what middle school would that be?
The bolded used to be the case but as of several years ago, all OES students now go to Thoreau Middle as their base regardless of their zoned HS. Jackson is the AAP center, so kids in AAP can choose that option.
Ah, ok, but where do you see this? The school website is confusing--just says OES feeds into TMS and LJMS (and Oakton and Madison). So all kids would go to Thoreau and then to OHS and not Madison?
Is Thoreau a good school for AAP and otherwise?
I don’t know where you’d see it. I know it’s the case because I have two OES grads, one before the boundary change and one after.
All OES students are now zoned for TMS as their base school (and I had no complaints with the LLIV program there, we chose it over LJMS). If they are in AAP, they can choose the center at LJMS.
No HS boundaries were changed. The OHS zoned kids who used to go to LJMS and were rezoned to TMS still go to OHS. The OES kids who always went to TMS (and weren’t affected by the boundary change) then JMHS still do that.

Ok, now I am really confused. Also are you talking about Oakton ES or Oakton High?

It may not anymore but it uses to. Until several years ago, OES was a split feeder to both Jackson and Thoreau as were a couple of other schools (Mosby Woods was one I can remember). Then those 3 or 4 schools were redistricted so all of the kids went to Thoreau as their base after the renovation increased capacity there. Most (if not all, I don’t remember) of the former OES Jackson kids went on to OHS while the Thoreau kids went to Madison. Now the only kids OES at Jackson who go to OHS are AAP kids who chose the center.
