International students don't qualify for aid or loans and pay cash by working in restaurants. I know about 30 who did so, and two nannies.

My parents paid for undergrad- I chose an in-state public instead of an SLAC to avoid debt. I had a fellowship with full tuition and a stipend for my first graduate degree. I then got a job at a university with tuition waivers for staff, so I got a second graduate degree.

Parents paid. It was for a SLAC when the total cost was under $15K per year in the 80s. I paid for grad school with loans and scholarships.

Trust fund from grandparents paid for undergrad

Parents paid law school tuition, my trust paid my living expenses

I will say my trust was just enough to keep me out of student debt but not enough so I could live lavishly afterwards. I was cushioned from having to worry about money and didn’t really get how much money you need to earn to be comfortable. Went into public interest law. Now a lot of my classmates who took out loans make and have more money than I do and live a nicer lifestyle.

How many of you had no financial aid but have no student debt for undergrad, grad or professional degrees? Who paid? Parents? Scholarships? Grandparents? Employers?
