My kids didn't max out of the AP courses offered at their high school (and they also wanted to keep up their music electives). They didn't see any benefit from dual enrollment.

Sometimes the AP classes are better than the MC classes. The MC classes are a mixed bag from what I hear

This is a feature, not a bug, for many people.

Also I'm pretty sure that students who do dual enrollment are still eating lunch.

It's possible to take online classes from other schools that look better on a college application.

Many colleges won't honor transfer credits from a community college.

That's just off-the-top.

Says who?

Getting there can be a problem, if it's an in-person class.

The program does not look great, no time for electives and very structured. You can take mc classes without being enrolled in that program.

DE classes are currently free - or at least they were last year. My son took a bunch and almost all transferred to his college.

Why would a kid want to go to a far off college to take a class their home school offers?

What makes you say it’s not popular?

DE or AP depends on the kid. Our older one (now in college) took APs and one DE senior year. She said afterward that she wishes she had taken more DEs instead of APs. Our younger one (HS) is taking DEs so far. As a concept, AP is just a better known quantity to most people, I think. DE course fees (at least where we are) tend to cost more than AP course fees by a good $20-$40, too. Don't know if that's an issue where you are, but it could help some families decide.

Can someone help explain why duel enrollment with Montgomery College isn’t more popular? It seems like it would be really attractive to families that have college bound kids (I’m thinking about the non-degree option not the specific duel degree programs). Do colleges not like it as much as seeing kids take regular high school courses? Kids just prefer to take classes at their home school? Hard to work around? Can it be done as summer school?
