More money on travel for all schools, no recruiting advantage for CA schools, people leaving CA in droves not going there.

Seems like they should just let football create some super-conferences...and the remaining sports just compete within a conference that makes geographic and historical sense.

UNC soccer coach (at one of schools that voted no along with Florida State and Clemson) says will hurt budgets to travel and impact ability to recruit. His view is good for the California schools but not for current ACC. Saw another poster said and bunch of articles also say all this is b/c suspect some schools will leave ACC so they need to have fillers.

It’s sports specific. That UNC coach has a very particular viewpoint because Stanford women’s soccer is a top program that will absolutely dilute his recruiting class. Not so much men’s fb and bball.

I wouldn't discount Stanford there. In football, Stanford was probably better overall than anyone in the ACC outside of Clemson since 2010. Yes, they've been bad two years in a row and have a new coach but they had 5 BCS bowl appearances (3 Rose Bowls). They have had modern football success and are finally allowing transfers and grad transfers. Their basketball team hasn't been good since the mid 2000s outside of one Sweet 16 in 2014 but they went to 11 NCAA tournaments in a row in the 90s and 2000s, including a Final Four and an Elite Eight. The ACC could help their recruiting there too. Obviously, they have the best Olympic sports program by quite a bit. On the fields and court, the ACC got better for sure adding Stanford.
I would have loved the B!G to offer Stanford and Cal 10-15% to join.

I think the OP is a UVA booster.

They aren’t bringing these schools in to create more challenges or rivalries or due to quality of the schools. They are preparing for the day when UVA, UNC, Clemson, FSU and/or others leave.

If those schools were not already locked up until sometime between 2028-2036 depending which way you look at their agreements, some would have already left.

Has no effect on basketball recruiting (Duke is in a class by itself, obviously; UVa has a brilliant coach and consistently wins 20+ games). Interested to know how other sports are affected . . .

Stanford and Cal are pretty much better versions of Duke and UVA. It is no wonder the UNC soccer coach said it would be bad travel and recruiting wise:

Now that these two schools are joining the ACC, how will this affect recruiting for UVA and Duke? If I were a top academic recruit living in NC, going to the west coast might be more appealing now that I will be able to play games against the local schools. Just wondering what others think....
