I love Shakespeare’s stories but the plays are so hard to read. Too much of a chore.

OP said her kid is excellent, it’s the current school that’s weak.

Maybe you should have spent more time reading and less time berating.

Shakespeare: Midsummer Night's Dream and Romeo and Juliet are commonly taught to younger readers.

Gatsby is a bit racy and gory.

I think Oliver Twist is okay.

I don’t remember Dumas Three Musketeers being tough? I enjoyed it in 7th grade and reread it again at sone point in high school

My 8th grader read them in 6th. I loved them and read them somewhere between 6th and 9th.

Romeo and Juliet? I remember reading that in 8th grade.

Catcher in the Rye is perfect for this age.

The Hobbit.

For pure fun, Cheaper By the Dozen. Not literature, but I remember really enjoying this book at that age. Has some good US cultural history. You could look up the real people the book is about as part of reading/studying it.

Four = one for each quarter.

Child is an excellent student but right now is in a very weak school academics wise.

I cannot change these circumstances but I’m complementing her education at home.

Since I’m not originally from this country or from an English speaking country, could you please suggest four CLASSIC novels for her to read while at this school?

Preferably something that has study guides out there so we can work through it.
