How often do you visit your family abroad?

We’re the opposite in that DH and I are both born and raised in the US and but we now live overseas. We see family every 1-2 years and it’s plenty.

I try to go to Asia once a year except during Covid. That was hard.

Once every 3-5 years? And about the same for family on the west coast. None of us are wealthy and everyone has work so it’s hard. But I grew up with far flung family so I’m kind of used it. Still sucks though; I wish we could all see each other more often.

husband has parent and grandparents (and uncles and cousins) in Europe, i have aunts/uncles/cousins in Europe and India. We both only have our mothers here in this country.

It's hard to be disconnected -- especially for my kids, who are growing up with the feeling that they come from really small families, but who actually have large-ish families, just not nearby.

We used to go to Europe every year, and India every 5 years. Our parents go much more frequently. We stopped during the pandemic and haven't restarted yet. I've started thinking of the disconnection as just a sad but true consequence of our parents decision to emigrate.

My DC lives in Europe. We go there once a year and they come here at least 2x per year, usually for 2 weeks each time. So we see them a lot, probably more than if they lived in the US because the visits are longer.

My sister has lived in Asia for about 10 years and I hate it. We see each other once a year, except during covid when we didn't see each other for almost 2.5 years. We've also gotten to the point that we rarely talk on the phone. Our days/nights don't align so my downtime is not hers and vice versa. It's sad, but when we do see each other it's like we were never parted.

In Europe, but only I ever go there. Maybe every 5 years.

My in-laws - husband's parents and sister with her family - live in Germany. They used to come visit us for a month every year, but now the parents in law are older and slowing down and our daughter is also older and more manageable, my husband is taking her to visit every year. This is also a vacation for me staying home by myself, so win/win.

We are not American. Our families are in Europe and Asia.

We visit my parents once a year but it’s been 8 years since we’ve seen our Asian family. My teens have never met a lot of extended family.

Yes. My immediate family is overseas. I see them once every three years.

My family is all over Europe and we meet in Switzerland once a year unless they come to the US for work and then I try to meet up with them if it's in NY or they stay with me if in DC

We go every other year and they are retired and come for 10 days annually.

Once every three years, usually. I feel you, OP. It's tough. We have a standing videocall for about an hour every Saturday morning. I've been doing this for 25 years.
