If someone does 3 years of langauge in middle school, how many years do they do before they get to the AP/IB version of the class in HS?

Well in MCPS you can do 5 years of French before doing the AP. In the rest of the country it's normally 3 yrs then the AP but because we have the MS study years, it's diluted and slowed down, so that kids taking it can do well, benefit from the Honors bump when it kicks in and still only do the AP when they are ready in HS. It's kind of ridiculous.

There is Spanish and French 4&5, but some take AP after 4

Teachers are much more lenient in middle school as well.

There is difference between MS and HS in terms of the time management and quality of work needed to maintain straight A’s. I would not assume that one completes correlates with the other. Especially since some students mature and do better in HS than in MS.

In my experience, there's a big jump from middle to high school in difficulty, but there are a lot of variables that will influence that outcome.

But on general principal, I would NOT assume a kid who's getting A's in middle school will get them in high school.

Trying to get a general sense of whether a mostly straight A student in MS translates into a mostly straight A student in HS. I realize this depends a lot on course selection so I’m talking generally about accelerated in most subjects (geometry in 8th for example) but not planning to do AP everything in HS. Also generally a diligent student but has interests outside of school and not overly academic. Pyle to just starting Whitman if that matters.
