OP here. Yes, screen use disorder or addiction is both symptom and cause of somet things, but mostly coping poorly.
ADHD, Depression Anxiety. BPD dismissed, possibility of Borderline II, but that also doesnt fit. Some self harm and one attempt.
We all (including DD) think BPD is the big one which is why she is with a good therapist now.
SHOCKINGLY, she actually took the news that the phone is going away as well pretty well. Of course, my delivery helped, slow and deliberate laying out her progress and asking her to share what she felt about the internet and her screen use.
The benefit of that was that she clearly knows she has a problem.

We have gone just about cold turkey and left her with only her phone with no data plan only the ability to text and she went straight to sex talk with a kid (verified kid) when explicitly told to stop this. So now the phone will get taken away.
And she will melt down. And likely she will make suicidal threats since that is what she does now anyway. Each time she does its like OK, lets go to the ER and she pulls it in. She won't be able to pull it in when she confronts the addiction. I mean I guess anything is possible, but I seriously doubt it.
NO end in sight. Progress and setbacks while she possibly just is getting sicker anyway.
Heartbroken.
Does she have a diagnosis that you are willing to share?

The police have been amazing in dealing with my mentally ill child. They have been a resource we could not live without. I agree with PP, you must never have had a real crisis or you would understand.

OP--have you considered an educational consultant? She's using screen time as a way to escape something. Until she addresses the underlying issue her behaviors will continue.

+1 This is one of the hardest things a parent can go through. I’m sure this is taking a mighty toll on your own health and well-being. I’m praying for your whole family because I don’t know how else to help.

Im sorry! People can and do get better from this but I know it’s so hard. (In fact, the developer of dbt had borderline as a teen-not sore if that’s your daughters diagnosis but it sounds like it could be.) good luck to you!
