Never. I’d check SIS weekly to make sure he wasn’t falling behind, but I never looked at schoology.

We check our kids homework daily even though high school and monitor it to make sure it's turned in and done accurately.

I wouldn’t say an hour a day - but 15 minutes a da in the beginning, yes. I made a checklist for him - have I checked SIS? Have I checked schoology? Is there something I have to schedule with a teacher (retake? Question?) and encouraged him to message the teacher to set up a time. The key is to build your child’s capacity and the habits you want to see. I also emphasized to him that everyone messes up once in a while, but I want to hear a plan from him when he does mess up (I already reached out about a retake, I didn’t understand so I didn’t finish it but I already asked the question).

FCPS parent here of a middle and high schooler. I didn’t spend much time when they were in middle school. Honestly, I just focused on the high school classes that were taken in 8th grade so in our case that was Algebra and Spanish. I couldn’t worry about the rest, since middle school grades are important and I only checked sporadically if there were issues. Maybe we were lucky but the middle school teachers were fairly organized.

High school was different. Unfortunately Schoology was only useful if the teachers entered assignments and that wasn’t always the case. Many integrated with google so parents couldn’t see anything from their accounts. It felt like a full time job last year checking each class, trying to make sense of what was going on and then trying to go over it with my kid. He never knew what was assigned or due and then I checked Schoology and couldn’t find out. I know others who didn’t have this experience so maybe we were just unlucky last year with his teachers.

Different district, but last year I spent about 15-60 minutes a day checking assignments and following up. The worst is when my kid says that the teacher changed the due date in class or they did it on paper. Sometimes true, sometimes not, but impossible to know.

Maybe my kid did do it on paper and failed to turn it in? Maybe he turned it in and teacher doesn’t update the online system until the day before the quarter ends? Maybe my kid blew the whole thing off? Impossible to know from looking at the system but the school would always just say to check online!

How much time do you spend on schoology for your adhd kid? I feel like this will be a full time job - or at least an hour a day checking on assignments and then following up with my kid. Feeling anxious... FCPS, 7th grade aap.
