I just gave federal holidays. But she had 3 weeks of annual leave she could use any time. I wouldn't be okay with the whole month of December... it would cut down our ability to work and would be stressful around an already busy time of year. Two weeks straight would be fine though.

Some people like to work around the holidays, particularly if they don't have families or families nearby. There's also lots to take kids to see during the day. December is a festive month. If I were a nanny I'd take February off. It's a bleak month, kids get cooped up inside or grumpy outside from being too cold.

Was this part of your set PTO?

so two half days on the eves? how generous!

This actually is very generous, assuming it's not coming out of the nanny's PTO. I'm expected to work Christmas Eve and New Years Eve, therefore I need the childcare I pay for.

My nanny has all federal holidays plus 10 days a year to use whenever she wants. We don't travel for the holidays and work every day except Christmas and New Years Day. Her family is local so she stays here too and takes a two week summer vacation every year.

If we were to take a vacation, though, we would of course continue to pay her.

+1.

I’m assuming PP has to work both in Xmas eve and nye, hence why they need their nanny. It’s not a matter of being “generous,” when folks have to work, they need childcare…. My guess is that PP would love to be home with their kids on those days and not working; why make them feel more guilty?!?

We give Christmas and New Year’s eves plus the holidays. Nanny likes to use her vacation to take a couple weeks off then.

We always travel during the Chistmas-New Year week so nanny gets that week off, in addition to her regular PTO.

How much paid or unpaid time off do you give your nannies around the holidays? Does anyone’s nanny take off the entire month?
