To answer OP, I’ve also been assigned games. The Amazon games are a bit lame but fine. I go trough the cards, weed out and keep the ones I think are more interesting or funny etc. This also keeps the games short and moving along. Besides, how else would I know what a group of baby seals are called?

The purse game is always fun! The little old ladies carry so much stuff around with them!

I would advise against prediction games. I have a friend who was struggling with infertility when her younger sister got pregnant. The games involved guessing the baby's eye color and other physical and personality features that the baby might inherit from family members. This was very upsetting for my friend as she'd imagine her own potential child.

I like the idea above of doing celebrity baby trivia.

Why did I attend this shower instead of just sending Kate an extra gift?

Do simple old-fashioned baby shower games - baby bingo, writing notes to mom to be and/or baby, the purse game (make a list of items, some REALLY crazy and the person who has the most items on the list wins), decorating onesies, etc.

Agree, no corny games! No trying baby food or guessing what the “poop” is in the diaper.

The best game I played was a game where we all played a guessing game to win a gift card after the baby was born. Hair color, weight, length, time, date. Whoever was closest the most won. It was quick and easy and was done while people ate and socialized. The mom posted the results and winner on FB and sent it with a pic of the new baby to everyone who attended.

If you insist on playing the stupid games, please include alcohol.

Can you do something game-adjacent? I've been to showers where the host sets out blank onesies, or blank wooden blocks, and decorating materials and each guest can decorate one for the baby (or not, as they choose). It's kind of fun, extremely on-theme, and not something you'd usually do, so it's got a game feeling, but it's not cheesy and doesn't require the kind of potentially embarrassing forced participation that puts people off of game showers.

Good ideas! And yes, please please do not do the melted candy bar thing. It's just the worst.

If the crowd was younger, say early to mid-20s, that might be fun. For older adults, not so much. We're more into the socializing, food and drinks.

But if the mother-to-be has requested games, I guess you gotta do games.

Let it be something low key like a quiz that matches celebrity baby names with their parents or having a basket of baby things and having people write down a guess of how much it costs, price is right style.

FWIW for some games I have seen — The diaper raffles were never a hit in my experience as people showed up with gifts instead. Everyone doesn’t know each other so the guess the baby photo of each guest is not going to work. The couples game where they try to pop the balloon on the partner is out. The older relatives are Pentacostal so anything racy is out.
