You'd rather ignore signs that your child is struggling?

A B isn't struggling! It's average.

Average is...not good.

We are on a number system. 1-4. He got basically all 3s last year. I met with a reading specialist and got him “informally assessed.” She said he is doing above grade level… so I don’t think grades mean much at this age.

DD is in 2nd, and we still aren't on a letter grading system.

They don't even matter in high school.

Not public school.

Good grief. Just let your child do the best they can without driving them into the ground. Whatever that means for their college prospects — they will land where they should land.

Well, multiple B's won't get you into a decent college. DD hasn't received any but just started 5th grade and we're wondering what to expect.

You need to relax. You will drive yourself and your kid crazy if you continue like this. Some kids are just B students. My brother was. He has a masters degree and has had a very successful career.

My dd had developmental delays and did everything late. She got extra reading help in elementary. She finally hit her groove around 10th or 11th grade in high school. She attends a very good college and is on track to graduate summa cum laude in a writing intensive major.

People develop at different stages. Plus, a B is not bad but that is a whole different issue that I likely will not convince you regarding.

A B indicates, to me, that a student understands the concept, can apply the concept some of the time, but has not mastered the concept. I would look into how to help my child master the material but I would not be worried about a B.

Are they a sign a student is struggling? Something everyone will get at some point? Just wondering.
