Nope. I have two, non-prepped, Level IV students and I purposely kept them at the base school program because I wanted them to be challenged but also have a solid EQ (for example, not acting superior to their classmates). I know plenty of parents who made the same choice.

Do you want to snap those students, like Thanos? The students won't vanish, they will just move around.

If center schools go away, then former center schools will have their catchment area enlarged, almost doubled. And other schools will have their catchment areas reduced.

PP argued centers where drawing students into the county, surely pp isn't just making things up?

Oh, she thinks reducing the appeal of the county to high SES and academically-oriented families will instantly reduce overcrowding at her school? Maybe her children are babies and might benefit from that effect.

No time or resources are wasted on center schools. They create some social issues and solve others, so that's not a net negative, it's mixed. Local Level IV also creates some social issues, fwiw.

No, this is not happening next year. I am sure that is the goal given the proliferation of local LIV but not next year.

In 2024-2025? Not possible.

With the universal rollout of Local Level IV to every ES, the expectation may have been that attrition would do away with center schools. But it hasn't happened.

If they actually get rid of center schools next year, massive boundary changes would be required. Almost every elementary school in the county would need new boundaries.

If it’s actually happening- meaning it has been definitely decided- you should be able to get a quick answer on that from aap@fcps.edu.


They have been hinting at it for years and building up local level iv services across the county.

A friend of mine told me that starting with the 2024-25 school year, AAP center schools are no longer offered for 3rd graders and instead they'll do local level IV at schools.

Is that true? It seems like a big shift to not have heard that elsewhere. Or is it maybe a pilot in our pyramid? Our center school is Keene Mill, we're at a West Springfield ES.
