We were young and had only lived in noisy apartments up until that point, so noise was not even a consideration. Fortunately we sold while the market was hot and now live somewhere much quieter.

Well that is just not true. Even in NYC there are quiet, tree lined streets with comparatively little traffic.

We rented a short term rental on a busy street in Arlington and I could never do this for my "forever" home.

Because I live in a city and all the roads are busy.

I think the obvious answer here is - there are no other options in said budget, or school district. I'd rather live in a well-located townhouse than a house on a major road.

Limited inventory, finite timeline, wasn't the most important to us among many potential tradeoffs.

We rented one for several years. Loved the house and location in every other way. Triple pane windows kept it quiet. Older kids so the only real concern was them pulling out of the driveway as teenagers. Worrisome but we taught and reminded. Still miss the convenient location.

I guess if you are getting a good house in a good area at a good price and aren't too sensitive about noise or pollution, you can buy it. Add some water and sound features like better windows, insulation, fountain, windchimes, trees, higher fence, etc to make it work.

If you live near a busy road, you probably pay more attention to kids and pets such that they don't get loose.

I drive a lot along Arlington ridge road which gets very busy, and the houses have circular driveways so they don’t have to worry about backing up. I wouldn’t mind that. With a regular driveway I’d have to be pretty desperate for a house.

I live just off a road that gets busy and making a left sometimes is awful but I also didn’t have an unlimited budget for a house so it’s just a thing I deal with.

I'm on a busy road but I live in the city and all the roads near me are busy. If I lived in the suburbs, I'd only be on a busy road if I couldn't afford to buy on a quieter road.

I always thought it wasn't a big deal until I went to an open house at one.

I was driving in Williamsburg Blvd today in Arlington and realized that I am interested in hearing why people pick to live along main thoroughfares or busy roads and if they’ve had generally positive experiences living on them. Do you ever have trouble getting in or out in traffic? Less crime? More crime?

What’s your story?
