Dr William Li has a book about metabolism - very informative. Not all calories are equal.

You do lose muscle mass as you get older. A good intervention is high protein and weight training. I am 53 and just lost several pounds of fat and increased muscle. I wish I had taken this approach sooner
r. Look up Joan MacDonald and Susan Niebergall on Instagram.

Good luck.

I have finally accepted my body after losing 70 - 80 lbs twice (lost it, gained it back, several years later lost it again, then gained it all back).

OP, I'm 52, and have long accepted my body (that carries some extra weight) but apparently my body wasn't as accepting-as my cholesterol shot up!

My dr. prescribed Wegovy. Hopefully getting some weight off will be good for the cholesterol. Also, Wegovy has been shown to reduce the risk of death from heart attack, stroke and heart disease by 20% according to the study this month. So, I'm a good candidate for this and I'm excited about how it goes.

Semaglutide has been used for nearly 2 decades I think and it's shown to be safe. You could talk to your dr OP.

50lbs should be enough to have you qualify for Wegovy. You can go off and on the med as needed in order to control your weight.

Just over a decade ago I gained 50 lbs in less than two years related to an illness and associated lifestyle changes. The weight gain plateau'd and I have stayed the same weight for the last decade. I can lose weight if I work really hard on diet and exercise but haven't managed to keep it off, I always just regain back to this same set point. I am now close to 50 years old and weight loss gets even harder. At the same time being overweight isn't good for my long term health.

I am not sure if I should just accept this body or if it is worth it to try to lose the weight knowing that in a decade I haven't kept it off for more than a couple months. I think my mindset is shifting from believing someday I will relose the weight to maybe just accepting this is permanent.
