I agree with this. I had a boss whose wardrobe was mostly navy/grey/black but she occasionally wore an orange dress that looked fine on her -- not better or worse than anything else she wore. But it was really ORANGE. Different from her usual palette, and very bright. People always complimented her when she wore it, I think because the dress kind of screamed "look at ME!"

I remember noticing that she wore it on days when she had meetings with bigwigs or lunch out. She definitely felt it was her best look, when really it was just her most noticeable look.

Anything to get noticed in the office. Women are too easily ignored.

I thought OP said her dress is beige.

Does it fit you perfectly? It could be that -- off the rack clothing almost never fits people perfectly, but when something does it tends to look great.

Women genuinely like the dress and the men like they way it fits around your bust.

Shape matters more than color. I’d focus on replicating that element in your clothing choices.

I think when we wear stuff that looks great, not just good, on us, we can’t help but project more confidence/happiness. People respond to that! And I’m sure you look good too.

You said: it flatters you in all the right places.

Maybe the dress is a totally different look compared to your day to day wear. I also agree is could be the brighter colors.

It’s likely the bold color/print and flattering cut.

Compliments from women, who tell me they like the dress, as well as positive attention from men every time I wear it (they never mention the dress).

It's making me rethink my colors and taste, because this sleeveless cotton dress is actually not at all in the color or pattern I usually like. I bought it because it has an eye-catching band of fabric that crosses my torso, defining a low neckline and high waist. It's closely fitted on top, then billows to the ankle, hiding my belly. It flatters me in all the right places, basically.

So is it just the figure that's pleasing? Or is beige my color (I have pale matte Asian skin and black hair)? All my other summer dresses are also sleeveless and high waist, but they don't cross tightly at the front like that, they're not that low-cut, and they're in cool colors, mostly blue. Most of my wardrobe is blue, actually. Have I been wearing the wrong color all this while?

Sorry, I can't find a picture of my dress. It's vintage Anthropologie from years ago.
