I would concur with this sentiment up until this new school year.

My child was a model student and loved/praised by everyone. They were excited to start MS and did wonderful academically with ALL As, including a 600 in Algebra I SOL.

I still don’t know if some specific thing happen to derail it all, but starting at the end of 2nd quarter my child began hating school and getting “sick” snd calling us to pick they up earlier.

Child began exercising dangerous behavior such as skipping school (leaving on their own accord) to go hang out in the South Lakes SC, hanging out with riff raff and, ultimately, vaping THC IN school bathrooms.

I’m NOT blaming the school entirely, but it seemed to me there was some sort of blasé and nonplussed attitude by school officials as they took no responsibility at all for what was going on in school grounds.

THAT said, they have a new principal now and so far, it seems he is pretty strict and holds a tight rein on the employees AND students.

Students are no longer able to roam freely and do whatever…

Pp again. BTW, the teachers were/are great. No complaints in that regard… Assignments were purposeful and challenging. Very good teachers.

My kid is at LJ and having a great experience, the teachers are overall good and I have no complaints. I think the morale is high with the new principle who came last year.

AAP at LJ is great but it is a pretty rough environment outside of this. There is a lot of fighting- some fairly violent. The kids had a video circulating of a girl jumped in the parking lot after dismissal last week.

Thank you! What was good about it? Did you like the teachers? Kids? Level of education?

Teachers are great. After school activities are diverse and very well run. Rigor is much better compared to another school that was also an option for us.

Hughes also offers the IB MYP program and later the ability to earn an IB diploma at South Lakes.

Hello,

Having a son in 6th grade level IV AAP. We are considering to buy a house and choosing between two middle schools that are AAP centers: Hughes in Reston and Luther Jackson in Falls Church.

I’m interesting in strong academic mostly, but social aspect is also important. Please advice.
