To prevent injuries.

OP here. They almost do train everyday. At this point we have one rest day which just means one day where they don’t have an organized soccer-specific training. Otherwise, it’s 4 days of team practice, 1 day of private or small group training and game day. They do weights/plyos twice a week on the days they have a team practice. But even on a rest day, my kids play together or on their own.

They do not play school soccer, both have long term goals of playing soccer so injury prevention is pretty important.

I'm insisting on at least a day off, and missing Monday school practice if he plays club Sunday. Friday is an off day as well and some weekends are off.

This is a dumb and bad schedule he insisted on himself that will go from now into October when school soccer ends. Next year his team level won't play during the fall school season which will be great.

Unfortunately all high level leagues we know play in the Fall and we have a Fall HS schedule.

Same! My senior is only doing mlsnext, but my sophomore is going to end up injured juggling ECNL and HS this Fall. I tried to talk him into choosing. We also told him if grades suffer- he’s dropping high school. He did it last year with all As- but his schedule this year is very rigorous with AP/honors.

U14 training with team usually 4 days a week, at least 1 game on weekend (friendly, league, or tournaments). 1 day a week private training/conditioning.

Is your DS doing any other organized/formal training outside of those days?

Two clubs. Practice four times a week, 2-3 games per week. But I don’t feel that any individual time is too much training. Kid would be running or running around doing something else otherwise (and NEEDS the movement and physical exertion).

High school now has had 3 hours of soccer/training since Saturday. 6 days straight. No days off. My kid then went to his 3 team practices in the evening.

Yes- I know. Too much. The HS always overtrains. And the kids don’t want to give up club. It’s a recipe for disaster.

Our club does 3 practices and a weekend game- sometimes 2 weekend games if it’s N.Carolina or somewhere else out of town. Doable.

Mlsnext kid has 4 training sessions during week and game on weekend. They will have light or recovery days mixed in.

My son’s U12 team practices three times per week; usually one game each weekend.

So there’s 3 days per week with no formal training. On his off days, sometimes he gets some touches in juggling and shooting goals on his own; sometimes he does other unstructured activities.

U13 ECNL, 3 days of formal training per week, encouraged to do fitness/footskills on their own on other days.
