Anyone know is this is DCPS wide with all middle and high schools or just certain ones? I know Hardy is doing it too.

Actually it’s quite possible they didn’t spend money on this because there are advocacy orgs out there donating them to schools.

Your child can get home faster if you don’t send them with a phone at all. Problem solved.

I am very glad they are trying this.

This seems like a waste of money. Why not just have cell phone lockers like they have at other schools?

Perhaps there is a walkable middle school that might be a better fit?

Yondr pouches were tried at Wilson and failed miserably, but that is because teachers did not enforce the use and in each class the phones were locked and then unlocked. At Deal phones used to be confiscated if used during the day and kids had to pay a fine in the office to get them back. Not sure how it works now but Yondr will only work if they are locked and removed from the kids. They are easy to hack otherwise.

I'm surprised there isn't a uniform policy for things like this. I also agree it is a good thing. My son's middle school locks phones in a secure box with individual compartments for different people's phones, and they get them at the end of the day. Kids don't need phones during the day.

Eh. Kids won’t miss their busses. I for one would be thrilled to get cell phones out of classrooms. Have you ever been to a concert with the pouches? They can be unlocked really quickly.
