Most gold jewelry in India is 22k and it holds up really well, real gold doesn’t corrode upon contact with water. 24k is soft and rarely used for jewelry.

Solid 22k gold is fine. It’s used everywhere for jewelry in India. My mom wears her chains every day and they hold up well. 24k needs to be handled carefully.

As far as I know, any “real” gold chain will be ok. Gold filled, vermeil, or even lower levels such as 10k might not be. I’ve never had any problems with wearing gold chains in the shower, but I’d take them off when I go swimming to avoid the chlorine/ pool chemicals.
