What are you envisioning for karmic payback? Op's neighbor posting about her making her 18 yr old work and fearing for her studies or endangering her with exposure to some seedy workplace.

Huh? Sounds like they both just graduated. One is taking a gap year (maybe she spent summer with the family before setting off to travel or do a program or start a job) and one is probably still looking for a job. It’s not weird they’re not working.

Is not my business, but my neighbor kids are 22 and 18. The 22 year old graduate from College last May, and the 18 year old is taking a GAP year, none of them work yet. MY 18 year old daughter works, because I told her to get a part-time job, and she enjoys it. Is it common to for a kids to just stay home now and not work?
Do you know all details of their physical and mental health status and history? Do you know they aren't working on some project they don't want to announce to neighbors until it progresses? Do you know they aren't getting any offers or working some low level job they are ashamed of?

Just because the adult children don't leave the house, it doesn't mean they aren't working.
My DD (18) works from home. She's an artist who does commissions. She probably looks like she doesn't work to our nosy neighbors.
My DS (21) had an internship this summer where he worked from home 99% of the time. And probably 75% of that time he was working from home, he was working poolside or at our beach house.

I have a 23-year-old that works part-time and attends college full-time. I have an 18 yo that just graduated high school, just finished a summer job, and is looking for an apprenticeship.
My neighbor has 3 kids. The oldest graduated college and works and lives in another city. The middle kid graduated college, had a great job that she quit, and now does nothing. The youngest child is away at college. Not my business; I don't care what they do.
