Could be a touch of body dysmorphia? If you’re technically normal weight, you might be squishy or not quite where you want to be, but you’re not fat anymore.

OP here. Thank you all for being supportive. I do think I am probably just being hard on myself (and having a bad day). I need to remember that this is a journey and part of that journey is accepting the body I have and not letting my mind get in the way of a fun night with friends!

To the PP suggesting weight training - you are correct. Right now my only movement consists of walking 4-5 miles a day so it’s time to start adding on to that.

To the other PP asking how I am doing it: essentially portion control of my usual meals and absolutely no snacking after dinner. Night snacks have always been my downfall and the habit really spiraled out of control during Covid lockdown. I’ve done it long enough now that not snacking is now a habit and I don’t miss anything anymore.

You could be me. I've lost 30 lbs since March, am at around 24.3 BMI. I'm down to a loose size 10, but still have some flab. The way I figure, I no longer look fat, but don't look skinny either. That's probably the best I can hope for, and not a bad place to be. If you are below 25 BMI I'm sure you look great.

Good for you, OP! I bet you look great and more important, you are healthy and finding your best you. I mean that. Go treat yourself to a massage. It always does wonders for my mind and my psyche. It helps me feel connected to my body and proud of who I am - not who I want to be. Go celebrate you. You deserve it!

Congrats!! 30 lbs is nothing to scoff at. I'm at 15lb and still quite fat (probably more, since my bmi is much higher still lol).

You are doing amazing! Take a look at some old pics pre-weight loss if you need a reminder of how far you've come.

30 pounds is awesome.

BMI under 25 is great too. Mine is over 25.

Congrats on your weight loss!

I'm tall and 25 lbs weight loss is not much on me - I don't even drop a clothing size - so I do get it. But I wonder if you are being overly harsh. I look at pictures of myself as a teen, when I thought I was fat, and I was so skinny! This may be at least partially in your head.

OP, hang in there and keep going! If you do not weight train, I'd join a gym and start. Not only does increased muscle mass boost resting metabolism, the recomp with do wonders for your appearance, not to mention helping to strengthen bones.

You are, by definition, not fat. Sorry you don’t like how you look in photos. We are often our own worst critics.

Just a vent because I don’t have anyone in real life I can talk to about this. I lost 30 pounds(!!) over the last 10 months and have been feeling better and liking what I see in the mirror. I’m also just below a BMI of 25, so technically “normal” weight for my height. I was out with friends and pictures were taken. When I saw them my heart sank. I still look fat. I know I need to keep plodding along with what I’m doing because it’s working; I’m not giving up. It just felt bad to see that after all the time and effort to get to a normal BMI I’m still fat. Thanks for listening.
