New to the area, huh OP? It's summer. There is a chance of severe thunderstorms just about every single day, and it's always hit or miss. That's what a thunderstorm is, and it's normal. It cannot be predicted.

Are you 12? Do you really not understand the difference between rain, and a thunderstorm?

The % they are typically reporting is confidence level. Not chance of rain.

Despite the meteorologists defending their trade here, OP is right. Literally cannot tell us the weather as it's happening. Want us to show their failures daily? We can start with this past Saturday night when they said no rain yet oddly, it rained.

Did you listen to a weather report or just check an app? Because the apps just go off a computer estimation and don’t have a human being reviewing the forecast.

WTOP warned about this afternoon’s weather in yesterday’s forecast. If you care about the forecast, you should watch the news or follow some of our local weather people on social media. Don’t trust the apps to give you the whole story.

Nothing like "flood warnings" after they've happened! And 60mph winds reported AFTER the fact.

I'm a research scientist in another field, and I know meteorology is one of the most complex sciences, OP.

Social media makes it harder, because most of the apps you're looking at pretend to be a lot more accurate than they can be. There's a lot of garbage out there. Don't pay so much at fluctuating percentages throughout the day, but at the overall risk, then at any alarms that ping.

In the summer, you have to know afternoon storms are practically always a risk. Your location might get hit. Or not. Read a real meteorologist's report for an explanation of your location's weather conditions. Don't rely on apps.

Wtf?? When I checked the weather report a few days ago there was a 70% chance of rain, this am it was 40%. Fast forward a few hours suddenly it's raining, already flooding the roads, our phones are going off with 8 different warnings including tornado warnings telling us to get to shelter immediately, the phones go off again flood warnings, thunderstorms. Why can't the meteorologists around here do their jobs correctly it's one things storms popping up but this happens here all the time and it's getting worse! If anyone disregarded their jobs like this they would be unemployed!!! Never seen such incompetence like this in my life. Then they said oh the weather service was going to issue a flash flood at 5 pm when it was already flooded by 4:15! You can't make this level of incompetence up! It's astounding!!
