The seal population was decimated due to bounty hunting which was an attempt to protect the fishing industry. Seals became protected and the population rebounded. More seals = more shark food.

Shark tracking has become a lot more sophisticated. Sharks are tagged, there are more pingers to detect them, and visual sightings can be reported.

And, yes, sharks, along with their prey, like colder water.

This concludes my nerd talk.

So fascinating!

Time to mask up and lockdown the beaches.

Yes! This is the plan. Maybe we should require the sharks to mask. Masks and lockdowns are always the answer

I worked as a lifeguard in OCMD for years and years. I saw sharks every single summer, especially after work when surfing. I think there's only been 1 reported bite in OC and that wasn't until two years ago. Rip currents and cross walks in resort towns are far more dangerous and lethal than sharks.

They're following their food source which are small fish who, in turn, are hanging out in warmer water thanks to warmer ocean temps global warming.

My guess it will only get worse.
