I broke my suitcase and they fixed it for me at the CityCenter location without a problem.

I love my tumi spinner carryon, although I bought it on sale at Bloomingdales I think (a scratch-and-dent discount) on an impulse and have loved having it. I don't think it's the holy grail of suitcases, but I do really like having it. And PP is right, you can pile stuff on it and still wheel through the airport smoothly.

I can’t speak to Tumi, but since others mentioned Briggs & Riley, I just wanted to chime in that we’ve had their suitcases that we check without hesitation and have had a couple pieces for more than 20 years. They have held up well and, to the extent that there have been issues, they’ve been easily resolved by the lifetime guarantee. Highly recommend.

Swissgear from Target is amazing.

Quality has gone down significantly since Tumi was acquired by Samsonite.

Yes, it is worth it. You get what you pay for. We have several pieces that are over 10 years old. Whenever there is an issue I take it to the Tumi store and they fix it, typically on site. If not, they send it off. They have always fixed our items, and I've been told if they can't you get a new piece that is "similar".
The things that have broken are typically handles and zippers Pulls, which after 10-15 years of heavy use and checking them that is "normal wear and tear" IMO.

Nordstrom rack also sells Tumi.

Op here. This is not a status thing at all. We travel a lot and I am looking for sturdy and smartly designed luggage. Efficient, etc. I’m aware it will get beat up. I’m just wondering if Tumi is well thought out and durable. I’m also considering purchasing it from the outlet and wondering if there’s a lot of difference between what you buy at the mall and what you buy at the outlet.

Travelpro are also very good for a lot less money.

Loyal Tumi user here and, from all that I hear & read, the above poster is correct.
That said, I’m very happy with my Tumi luggage and plan to buy another piece shortly. As others have said, wheeling quality cases thru the airport makes for a better travel experience. Whatever brand you decide to buy, get quality and enjoy your travel.

You don’t “invest” in luggage that you check in. I’d only splurge on something that goes with me on the plane.

No. First, I have had TWO Tumi suitcases broke. It turns out they don't have warranties! So I just have two broken suitcases. So annoying.

My spinner luggage that cost a small fraction of what Tumi would cost also glides and handles like a dream with stuff piled on top of it too. It has lasted for many years. If the having a luxury brand is worth it to you and you don't mind checking it, then go for it, but there are many more practical options that will do the job for better value.

I think it’s great, but I would never pay full price for it. I buy whatever colors are on sale. It glides through the airport like a dream though. I can put 50lbs of hand luggage on top of it and still push it with one hand. It’s also very light which is helpful when you pack as much stuff as I do.

What is your goal with it? Personally, I want luggage that I wouldn't hesitate to check if necessary even if I planned to originally carry it on. So that means I avoid the big flashy brands like Tumi, Briggs and Riley, etc.

Currently have a Monos suitcase which has worked out well.

I am considering investing in this. Is it worthy of the hype? Is the Tumi outlet stuff comparable? Thoughts?
