It is typically the same price or cheaper and one less layer of bureaucracy to deal with when their is an issue.

I like Google Flights best, but I add in Kayak depending on the trip because they have a few airlines that GF doesn't have (i.e. Kenya Airlines). I always book directly from the airline.

If there’s a scheduling problem and you don’t book through them, you are screwed.

Also more points if you book through them.

Only true benefit for booking through a 3rd party, is for business class seat consolidators

This, +1000. Just got back from a transcontinental trip which we booked directly on the airline website. Flight to destination (initially with a layover) got cancelled with less than 24 hours left but we were rebooked within 10 minutes on a direct flight.

This. Interestingly Google links to the airline, so you’re purchasing direct, but if you bypass Google and go to the airline directly, without Google, the price is often higher.

This - especially if I want to find out what airlines fly where or if I'm doing initial travel research to figure out a trip itinerary. I always purchase directly from the airline.

I search on Travelocity to pick a flight and then book on the airline's site.

Travelocity and then go to airline website when I see who goes nonstop (where possible) at the lowest rate.

I used to use Kayak, but lately I find if you go to the airline’s websites individually you’ll find more/better/cheaper routes than what kayak displays. Are there any good centralized search engines anymore?
