Ours put out supply lists this year for (I think) the first time, and I was wondering about this. It's the same stuff we usually wind up sending in throughout the year based on specific requests, but I think this year they are letting people know ahead of time what they'll be requesting so that parents don't have to go out and buy it on an as needed basis if they don't want to.
At least I hope so, because it will be awkward if they want me to send my 1st grader with everything on the list -- it's like two large grocery bags full of stuff.
