Ours put out supply lists this year for (I think) the first time, and I was wondering about this. It's the same stuff we usually wind up sending in throughout the year based on specific requests, but I think this year they are letting people know ahead of time what they'll be requesting so that parents don't have to go out and buy it on an as needed basis if they don't want to.

At least I hope so, because it will be awkward if they want me to send my 1st grader with everything on the list -- it's like two large grocery bags full of stuff.

This is an admin thing. Teachers made the lists in June in their final team meetings.

Agreed. Also the teachers might have different timeframes when they want stuff to come in. The kids. Any go to their lockers between classes anyhow so it is not realistic for them to be toting 5 boxes of tissues and disinfectant wipes from class to class anyhow.

I would. Some of the lists have everything that all of the relevant teachers want. Your kid’s teacher might only use one or two of the things listed.

Former Janney parent here...I remember at least one year when we had to buy certain color folders/notebooks depending on what teacher the child had, so you may want to wait until class assignments. Supplies never seem to be needed on day one, so there was time to buy. Also, supplies are combined for all the kids...my kid never brought home the exact kind of folder/notebook I bought. I didn't mind but I know some people think what they buy goes with their kid, and wanted to adjust expectations.

Our ES sent that info last week.

(Not sure how common/uncommon this is, but kids don't bring their own supplies at our school. If you're able, you order a box for the classroom as a whole.)

We have had our supply lists and class assignment for two weeks at our ES. But it’s EOTP. And the principal shared all upcoming dates including BTSN, class meet ups, principal’s coffee, etc. in June.

Last year at Janney, we got the class lists 10 days before the start of school and the summer mailing (with supply info) a week before that. So hopefully we'll get something within the next week.

These are all great questions to ask the main office in a quick phone call.

When will schools post supply lists? We’re at Janney and haven’t seen anything. Also, when do they normally announce teachers and classrooms? DC keeps asking if they’ll be with any of their friends. Is it normal to not hear anything this late in the summer?
