Wow no…have never heard of anyone doing that.

I do know one family who sent their out of control teen son to a reform school across the country but they visit fairly often. Seems to have worked out well and the son is happier/improving from what I have heard.

I mean, my ex-wife kicked our daughter out at 14. She has lived with me for four years. Despite 50-50 custody on paper.

I was gonna say, telegraphing this to your family and/or inner network seems like the motive is to pawn off the teen to sympathetic (and gullible) family or a close family friend. Especially a girl. Because truly kicking a teen girl out is a recipe for drug addiction and prompt pregnancy if not worse.

My parents “arranged” for my 13 year old brother to go live with our aunt and uncle, but refused to pay any money for his support. So basically kicked out with relatives taking him in.

Kicking them out with nowhere to go? Absolutely no.

A good friend was expected to move out when turning 18 and did so. Had to rent a place, pay for college, etc. all without anymore support. Turned out vey well but always resented that expectation. There were no behavior issues, just the "rules" of the house.

That viral girl with the rich doctor mom who said she was a foster care kid on college apps did this at 16 or 17. 16 year old kids can be really clever.

My mom made me go live with my grandmother (in the same city) for a few months when I was 16. We were not getting along and she was angry that I was smoking a lot of pot. Going to live with my grandmother didn't cure the latter, but she and I got along well, so it was better for everyone. I wouldn't have minded staying there longer, but my mom wanted me to move back eventually.

I can’t fathom doing this. Where does a 16 year old go? I assume a school friend. Aren’t the parents mortified?

Yes, I have heard of abusive parents abandoning their teen children by kicking them out of the house.

Heard someone in our extended orbit may be kicking out their “uncontrollable” daughter. I didn’t even think that was legal. That said, I’m not sure how you control a 16 year old who is out of control. I’m also not sure if the kicking out is more of an ultimatum before the school year begins or legitimate.
