Keep it up OP - it's hard, but check those days off and relish in the positives.

This is unhelpful and nobody cares what you think.

I've never met someone with an alcohol problem that wasn't defensive, just as you are.

That probably is a function of how you and others are interacting with them directly or indirectly.

Shaming somebody for ONE glass of wine a night is OK here.

Telling people to actually do some work to try and control their own weight on this forum, that’s shaming.

Makes a lot of sense.

It's all about how you say it. If you endlessly post in the diet forum in response to people getting on Ozempic about how easy it is to lose weight if you just eat less, you're not shaming, but you are annoying and super uninformed.

If you shame people the way you did above, and then have the nerve to be the offended one, I have no words.

Good for you OP. Ignore the dorks trying to make this thread a negative.

I was the same as you OP. I realized i loved the ritual of pouring a glass of wine and relaxing. I now make the same ritual with tea and it satisfies me. My problem was that one glass of wine was never enough. I always wanted 2 so I’m better with none. The tea ritual helps and I feel so much better not drinking. I lost weight and my skin looks great. Keep on!

DP. Actually, as a former "just a couple glasses of wine" daily drinker, I think it is helpful. Lying to oneself about how much alcohol one is consuming is not helpful.

dp. If op is sincere about wanting to quit, she needs to see the reality of what she is dealing with. Plus, we all know we understate the amount of alcohol we consume. Maybe she does only have a glass of wine, but how big is the glass. Op may be in tapering off territory vs being able to quit cold turkey.

It gets better. It really does. I don’t hooch at all anymore. I used to do things like do an Olympic distance triathlon and after all that training and racing drive straight to total wine after. Terrible idea.

Once you navigate how bad the alcohol makes you feel, you just sort of lose interest. At least for me.

Yup. Try to go for a month. You'll be amazed at how great you feel.

I go through periods frequently where I will quit drinking -- usually a month or so -- and it is WILD how amazing it makes me feel, and it is MORE amazing how willingly I go back to drinking at some point in the face of that knowledge.

I’m not a heavy drinker by any stretch, but over the years I have become a daily drinker. One drink a night usually (beer or wine), sometimes two. Three gives me a hangover. I realized recently that alcohol isn’t serving me at all - weight gain, poor sleep, etc. I decided to quit for a while. It’s been four days and I am sleeping so much better already, but wow, it’s taken more willpower than I expected. Each night I think of how great a glass of wine would be. Made me realize I’m more addicted than I realized. Hoping to see weight loss and skin improvements to help keep me going.
