Only if the market crashes. Endowments have ballooned in the past couple of years. If anything, schools now have more freedom to ignore wealth in admissions.

Agree. These schools are going to become even more accessible to private school types as the price of attendance climbs beyond the reach of many in the upper middle class.

Ok then, you take your kid out of their private school. The rest of us will stay the long course - just like any other investment - time matters.

I love how it used to be "private schools are a waste and give you no advantage in college admissions...you're dumb if you don't send your kids to public" and now after the NY Times article it's "the private school advantage is going to disappear soon, just you wait".

It will change when the ultrawealthy stop donating to the endowments.

And then elite private schools will adapt to the changes and continue to thrive. Many of these schools have existed for 100+ years. They will exist for hundreds of years longer while serving the political and economic elite in this country. That will end when capitalism ends.

Publicly rearranging a few deck chairs to appease the outraged masses won’t REALLY change anything. Colleges are a business, much like everything else in this country.
